Trusting your gut feelings. Leaning into your intuition. Moving towards that sense of ‘knowing’. These are the things I’ve been exploring recently in my own life, and I’m realising more than ever how this is a muscle that we need to train - and one we need to be encouraged to connect with.
I have always been a bit of a gut person – I hold all my tension here and have suffered terribly with pain and discomfort for as long as I can remember. Years ago, I went for some food intolerance testing in a local health food store. I have no idea how reliable this test was, but I was intolerant to so many food groups, I’m not convinced it was. In fact, it potentially encouraged me to further restrict my diet which was so far from what I needed at that time. The crux of the issue was anxiety and stress. I was chronically overwhelmed, on edge and hypervigilant. My stomach was constantly in knots and despite being neck deep in my pursuit of training to be a clinical psychologist, I had no skills to manage this.
Ironic but not unique.
